Video Search Engine Optimization - How to make your video appear on Google and Youtube

Have you noticed that there are often Youtube videos and videos that are embedded on various websites even in the Google results? A searcher does not need to use Youtube (the world's second largest search engine) but can use Google (the world's largest search engine) to find your video. We already know that many clicks go to the first result, but what happens if a video comes in 3rd place? Do most people still click on the first result or do they prefer to click on the video?

First some quick facts about Youtube:

More than a billion unique users visit YouTube every month

Over four billion hours of video are shown each month on YouTube

Every minute, 72 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube

70% of the traffic on YouTube does not come from the United States

YouTube is available in 53 countries and has been translated into 61 languages

In 2011, YouTube had more than a trillion views, or nearly 140 views for every human being on earth

How to watch Youtube

Think of your Youtube channel as your second website. Each video is a subpage. The big difference between a Youtube channel and a website is that Google now seems to show more and more channel results in the search results instead of just videos. This means that it is important that you do not just upload one or two videos that are good and the rest bad to "fill up". The bad videos that do not get any views, many dislikes or do not get any comments, you will reduce the value of the entire channel. Keep the videos within the same subject so that the channel itself can have a higher authority.

Keep in mind that design is just as important on Youtube as on your website. Here are some tips to help you improve your channel.

Create the video

Most people are not so keen on sitting and talking into the camera, nor is it recommended for every type of video. Depending on what goal you have with the video, there are a few different options. Different goals can be:

- Get more people to your website

- Strengthen your brand

- Direct sales - use a call to action directly in the video

- Gather leads

- Sell an affiliate product

Video length

A video should not be too long. If you can hold it for 1½-3 minutes, that's fine.

If it is a video that goes into more depth, it should still not be longer than 10-12 minutes.

It is difficult for customers in our stressful lives to take the time to watch videos that are longer than that. But most people have 10 minutes left.

Search Engine Optimize

Okay. So how do we get your video to rank high on Google and Youtube?

1. Select a long tail keyword, ie a slightly longer search phrase. For example. “How to cook pasta”

2. After making the video, name the file your keyword. "How to cook pasta.avi" or whatever the file format is now.

3. When you upload the video, try to include the search phrase twice, without it looking too strange. It seems that it is easier to get good positions on Youtube if the search phrase is mentioned more often.

4. Now search for your keyword on Youtube. See which tags the first 3 videos have and copy them to your tags. Then select as many tags as possible that are relevant to your video (do not select 100 tags or excessive ones, but select as many as you can without it being strange). To do this, go to one of the videos, right-click and press "view page source" or "view source", there may be something else similar depending on which browser you have. You will now see the source code, press ctrl + f to search and search for "keywords". You will now find something called meta keywords, which are the tags.

5. In the description of the video, put your link to your website at the top. Remember to use "http: //" so that you can click on it. Then add the script from your video to the description. If you say very little in the video for some reason, write something a little longer about your service, your website, etc. that revolves around the search phrase.

6. Now post the video. You then go to your video and copy the link address. Then go back and edit the description of the video again, and at the bottom insert the link to your youtube video. The reason for this is because there are many video sites that copy content from youtube and sometimes also copy the description. This allows you to get links to your video from the other sites which is good.

7. Link to your youtube video from your website and see if you can get others to link to it with your search phrase as anchor text.

Have the video on your website

There are many benefits to having the video on your website as well. A tip is then not to name the blog post / page name the same as the video, but something else relevant that you think others can search for.

1. Before the video, you can write an introduction. Then embed the video below, and below the video you can have more detailed information about the video or something related to the topic.

2. To get Google to display an image of the video in the search results, you need to create a video sitemap. Which you then upload to Google Webmaster Tools.

Start with this and see what happens. Then you are miles ahead of your competitors. If you have questions about standard search engine optimization or search engine optimization of video, comment on the post and we will be happy to help!
